A Date with Desserts!

Why do you all wait so eagerly for 25th day of December every year? Is it just because it’s Christmas day…or is it that the previous year is about to end, marking a fresh beginning for another year to scroll down…or is it that the cute Santa showers his blessings, gifts and love on everybody all around…?

Are you not forgetting something…? Yes, Christmas also stands synonymous for celebrations, cakes, cookies, sumptuous dishes and desserts!

No doubt, on Christmas Day guests are welcomed with greetings first, but the next step is certainly sweets! And the more delicious the dishes, more will be the fun and enjoyment of this special and most awaited day. And the kind of dishes and desserts that you will choose for the day will decide the kind of impression that will be left on the gathering at your place.

Are you now scratching your heads to make the right selection? You don’t need to bother about that because here is a list of some of the most mouth-watering desserts, and the directions are also at hand to prepare and serve them on the platter to your guests. And beware because these recipes will make sure that the same guests, and even more, visit you again and again every year just like our dear Santa Claus!

Apple Pie in a Goblet Dessert

Here’s a novel way to serve fresh apples - very light and elegant.

Ingredients:

Directions:

In a large saucepan, combine the apples, sugar, water, cinnamon and nutmeg. Bring all to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 10 minutes or until the apples are nice and tender.
Uncover the pot and cook for another 9 to 11 minutes, or until most of the liquid has evaporated. Remove pot from heat.

Set up four goblets or parfait glasses.

In each goblet, layer one tablespoon of cookie crumbs, 1/2 cup ice cream and 1/4 of the apple mixture. Top each dessert off with the remaining cookie crumbs and a large dollop of whipped cream. Garnish with an apple slice, if desired.

Christmas Trifle Dessert

This colorful trifle dessert looks as great as it tastes.

Ingredients:

Directions:

Drain the pineapple, reserving the juice.

Dip the bananas into the pineapple juice. Drain and discard the pineapple juice.

Set aside the pineapple, bananas, three red cherries and three green cherries. In a bowl, whisk together the eggnog and pudding mixes; mix for 2 minutes, or until slightly thickened.

Place half of the pudding mixture into a 4-quart glass serving bowl. Layer half of the bananas on top. Layer half of the pineapple on top. Layer half of the cherries on top. Layer half of the cake cubes on top. Layer half of the whipped topping on top. Repeat layers.

Garnish with reserved cherries and walnuts, if desired.
