American Independence Day

Independence Day is celebrated in America on July 4. It has been a very special day in the United Sates of America , which celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress in 1776. The day is often referred to as “The Fourth of July.” It is a national holiday in the USA.

Independence and freedom are the prime theme for the day, that displays the colors red, white and blue accompanied by the American Flag and fireworks. The American Flag was sewed for the first time in 1776, alternating thirteen red and white stripes and thirteen stars on a blue background. A star has been added with each new state joining the union with succeeding years. Now, the flag has 50 stars with the thirteen stripes.

July 4, 1776 implies the official split of America from British rule and the outburst of the American Revolution. The Declaration of Independence declared 13 American colonies independent, those were under the rule of King George III.

In June, 1776, the 13 colonies formed a committee to incept a formal declaration of independence. It consisted of Thomas Jefferson as the head, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin Philip Livingston and Roger Sherman. On June 28, Thomas Jefferson drafted the declaration, which was processed through a vote in the 13 colonies. On July 4, John Hancock, the president of the Continental Congress signed the declaration in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

It was followed by the distribution of the Declaration copies in the next day. The Declaration was published by the Pennsylvania Evening Post on July 6, 1776. It had its first public reading in Philadelphia’s Independence Square. Church bells were rung to cheer the public on that auspicious day.

Since then, the July 4 is celebrated as America’s birthday. On this day, parades, fireworks and picnics are organized. People also consider it to get along with family and friends to have fun with an independent spirit.

America’s Independence Day Parade takes place on the Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th street in the late morning, every 4th July. The National Park Service and Diversified Events co-hoste and produce the parade respectively. Distinguished bands are invited to take part in the parade which are accompanied by military units, floats and VIPs. The invited bands are recommended by the state’s music educator office or the State tourism board and approved by the office of State’s Governor. The bands represent all parts of the United States and they are required to be experienced.

The parade consists of almost 25 bands, 15 floats, 20 specialty units that include military, giant balloons, equestrian and drill teams, 15 celebrities which include movie, television and recording artists, local and national dignitaries and officials.

The parade is followed by various other recreational activities and events. A National Folklife Festival is organized on the day. It displays different cultures and traditions of the ethnic groups in America. The Capitol Building hosts PBS Concert which features the National Symphony Orchestra.
