Choosing An Engagement Ring

For quite sometime, I was being piqued by the tradition that actually started off the practice of wearing an engagement ring on the fourth finger of the left hand. I did my research and trust me it was quite an overwhelming task. But on the way I landed on something called ‘Vena Amoris.’ According to the ancient Egyptians, who started this tradition (of wearing the engagement ring on the fourth finger of the left hand) symbolizes undying love, as they believed the love vein, that is, the Vena Amoris ran directly from this finger to the heart. Later in AD 860, it was Pope Nicolas I who made the practice of wearing a gold engagement ring official. Those were some facts, now coming to our point as to how to choose an engagement ring. It can be easy or it can be really tedious. More the options, the more confusing it gets. So here are some engagement ring ideas to help you choose just the right ring:

If your aim is to give something unique, then you might want to consider getting a colored diamond. The colored diamonds are quite rare and only one in 10,000 diamonds is a colored one. They are even more rare than white diamonds. You can find the colored diamonds in orange, yellow, pink and blue. But it is the pink one that is the rarest. As they are unique and so they are even expensive. They cost 30 to 50% more than the other diamonds.

Another engagement ring idea would be opting for bigger diamonds. Earlier people used to go for one-carat diamonds, but now they are increasingly selecting 3 to 5 carat diamond engagement rings. There even are many new ideas for engagement rings. Many couples nowadays are choosing new diamond settings too. Round diamonds are considered the most popular followed by the princess cut. The bezel setting is also a popular choice.

The Three stone rings have become quite a trend with many. The bigger center diamond is accented on both sides by smaller stones of the same shape. Another unique engagement ring idea would be opting for antique diamond or heirloom diamond jewelry. The diamond cuttings on these rings are actually done manually by craftsman.

The choice of metal is also an important factor while choosing the ring. My personal favorite Platinum is something that is sought after by many for its hypoallergenic properties. It is stronger and heavier than gold and is absolutely tarnish free forever compared to gold. If you want a different gemstone, then some best alternatives would be gemstones like Sapphires, rubies and emeralds.

However, if money were an issue for you, then a smarter and suave move would be getting a gemstone that looks like the real thing such as Cubic zirconia or moissanite. They are just splendid, it doesn’t matter if you love the woman and if she loves you too, then she will understand. Also, you can always buy them on your second anniversary.

Once you are done with selecting the perfect engagement ring, its time to pop the question. Take her out for a nice dinner; a lake view or sea- view restaurant would be just perfect. Keep her hooked, drop hints of what is coming. Then at the first opportune time on your knees with the ring ask her the question and if all goes well, its party time.

Call in your friends and the family for the engagement party. Start the preparations with making the guest list and selecting the invitation cards. Companies like Invitation Box offer a wide selection of engagement party invitations. With a little bit of shopping around you will be able to find just the right card for your party invitation. But whatever you choose must convey the joy and happiness of the occasion.
